Members Council

The Members Council has the responsibility to represent the collective interests of the membership and act as the sounding and policy forming body for the Chamber by enabling discussion and debate. It comprises up to 36 representatives from members.

The Council oversees and directs the policy function of the Chamber and identifying the key issues that our members wish the Chamber to engage with.

The Members Council also receives reports from the Board of Directors concerning the sound management of the business on behalf of Chamber members.

A Chair of the Members Council is elected on an annual basis and provides prioritisation and direction of policy and an effective point of contact with the Chamber’s Board.

  • Alan Tune (Chair of the Member Council)

     Alan is a Director at Butterworth Spengler insurance brokers, an independent brokers based in Liverpool with over 40 staff and 3,500 clients across the UK.

    Following university in Bristol studying economics Alan started his insurance career as a Graduate Trainee with Marsh, working in London and Glasgow. After completing his Chartered Insurance Broker examinations Alan returned to work in Liverpool in 1999 and spent time at both Griffiths & Armour and Powells before joining Butterworth Spengler in 2010.

    Alan with a team of colleaguesset up a Corporate Office for Butterworths in Liverpool City Centre. Over the last 15 years Alan has been involved with many of Liverpool’s leading companies arranging their insurance and risk management needs, in doing has become part of the regions thriving business community.

    Alan is married with 2 grown up children and lives in West Derby. He is a Liverpool season ticket holder and his interests are golf, snooker, reading, travelling and Karaoke.

    Jonathan is a partner at Bermans LLP. He is a dispute resolver and a vastly experienced commercial litigator. He acts for a range of clients including financial institutions, accountants, solicitors, owner/managed businesses. Jonathan has also been named the Liverpool Law Society's Solicitor of the Year for 2013.

    His hobbies include football, rugby and golf.

  • Tristan Bryant

    Tristan has lived in Liverpool since moving from Stamford, Lincs 17 years ago to study Sound Technology at LIPA.

    He now runs his own company ‘Dotted Line’ which offers Music Management and Booking Agency services to a number of acts specialising in Acoustic, Folk and Folk Rock. Another ’string to his bow’ is Live Event services. Tristan has toured the world as a Sound Engineer, Tour Manager / Event Manager and is able to offer these skills in not just the Music sector but also in the Conference & Business markets. Having spent 5 years at Adlib Audio (2007 – 2012) managing the Corporate AV Dept, his knowledge of local venues and suppliers is invaluable to many Event Organisers working in the region.   • Jean Ellis

    Jean Ellis joined DSG at the beginning of her accountancy career. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Jean went to work in industry and has been Finance Director for a number of AIM listed companies. Jean rejoined DSG as a Partner back in 2004 and until Summer 2013 was a non-executive director of a fully listed plc. Jean is also a licensed Insolvency Practitioner and Chartered Tax Advisor enabling her to provide a broad range of sound guidance to her owner-managed business clients. With a keen sense of public spirit, Jean leads our not-for-profit team advising a diverse mix of charities, housing associations and other non-profit making clients.

  • Paul Gilbert

    From a commercial background and working with businesses from micro to blue chip, Paul Gilbert has deep international knowledge. In corporate life, he held senior positions in marketing in the creative and leisure sectors and corporate finance in the chemicals industry.

    Through TEN, he has worked with a great many companies as well as national governments, universities and Chambers of Commerce.

    With over 40 years of international experience, he has lived overseas and operated in a great many countries across all continents. He now operates through professional networks across the world.

    Paul is also Chair of Liverpool Chamber’s International Trade Committee and Chair of COMIT (Chambers On Merseyside International Trade); he is also on the National Council of the Institute of Export & International Trade, and a Fellow of that Institute. In addition, he is a member of the Institute of Business Consultants; a member of the Institute of Credit Management; and a founder member of Envirolink North West.

  • Paul Grover

    Paul Grover is a chartered Town Planner at Arup and is also a member of the Institute of Economic Development who advises client's on all aspects of commercial development and urban regeneration. In recent years Paul has focused on urban regeneration opportunities in Liverpool, and recently secured unanimous planning approval for Europe's largest riverside regeneration project, Liverpool Waters.


    Paul is also a regular speaker on inward investment and exporting goods and services in his role as a UKTI Export Champion, and draws from his experiences of working in China, the Middle East and Europe.

    Margaret is the founder of Concept PR. She established the consultancy on Merseyside in 1993.

    In 2013 Concept PR merged with Kenyon Fraser a full service marketing, communications agency with specialism in marketing strategy, public relations, branding, graphic design, advertising and digital and website marketing. The agency has over 100 clients across the UK, Ranked as a PR Week 150 company for many years. The company has strength in public, private and voluntary sectors and has a list of national awards.

    Margaret has a skill for integrating companies within the communities in which they trade, assisting with the development of their reputation, awareness and standing.

    Alison Lobb is managing partner of Morecrofts, a medium sized multi-service solicitors firm with 5 offices in Merseyside.  Her background is in litigation, specifically complex personal injury and abuse work, but she now splits her time between her legal work and management of the firm, amnd recently achieved a post graduate certificate in Legal Practice Management from Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.  Morecrofts offers a broad range of services for businesses and individuals and has won a number of regional legal and business awards.  The firm has recently moved its City Centre headquarters into the beautifully refurbished former Liverpool Registry office building in Old Hall Street.

    Alison is currently Vice President of Liverpool Law Society. Outside of work she is Deputy Chair of North Liverpool Citizens Advice Bureau, and Chair of Mersey Bowmen Tennis Club.  She is Liverpool born and bred and lives in south Liverpool. In her spare time Alison enjoys playing tennis, swimming and ski-ing, and loves quizzes, walking and the great outdoors.
