North West accountancy and business advisory firm MHA Moore and Smalley has recruited 17 trainees to join its team across the North West.

The trainees will work across the firm’s various North West offices, assisting clients on a range of accountancy and tax matters, including corporate accounts, VAT, capital gains and self-assessment tax.

Graham Gordon, managing partner at MHA Moore and Smalley, said: “Trainees are the life-blood of the firm as they keep new talent and skills coming through.

“The firm has created a compelling employment offering to ensure we attract and retain valuable people. That’s evidenced by the fierce competition for our trainee positions this year, with a high number of quality applicants.

“We’ve appointed people who share our values and will help us with our aim of becoming the firm of choice.”

Hugh Austin, Anna Berry, Gemma Birchall, Joshua Booth, Ben Cardwell, Hannah Clark, Maddie Coates, Luc Couyava, Joseph Dodds, Charlotte Dugan, Amy Hall, Sam Holmes, Ryan Lenwey, Haleemah Mohammed, Rebecca Ridding, Carmen Simmonds and Robbie Taberner have all joined the firm.

George Huyton and Fiona Lockhart are also currently working for the firm as corporate interns with the potential to become trainees in the future.

In June, MHA Moore and Smalley announced a record turnover of £16.6m for the 2017-18 financial year. In September 2018, the firm was named among the Top 50 UK accountancy firms based on turnover in the prestigious Accountancy Age 50+50 list.

The firm, which has over 300 staff, credits effective recruitment, further growth in international and transactional work, and strong investment in its digital accounting technology as the main drivers of its success.
