Liverpool Chamber's Charity of the Year 2012 - The Royal Court Trust Liverpool
- Royal Court Liverpool Trust has two main aims:
To act as custodians of the Grade II, art deco Royal Court Theatre
To develop participation programmes that engage communities with the rich history of the Royal Court Theatre
The Trust is committed to working in partnership with a wide range of people and organisations to ensure that our community and education programmes are relevant and accessible for all.
- Since our establishment in 2008, we have developed a range of projects in partnerships with NHS, Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police, Merseytravel and a number of schools across Liverpool.
Projects include:
'Access All Areas' workshop programmes delivered in schools and alternative education centres giving young people access to the theatre's creative team to produce and perform a piece of theatre on the Royal Court stage.
'Royal Variety Lunch Club' providing entertainment for older people aged 50+ at risk of or currently living in isolation, living in care or sheltered accommodation.
'Celebrate 70' funded through HLF Young Roots engaging 20 hard-to-reach young people to research the history of the theatre since its rebuild in 1938.
Our programmes have so far reached over 3,000 older people at risk of isolation and over 2,000 young people from areas of multiple deprivation across Liverpool.
In December 2011, the trust received a second stage Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £1 million pounds to begin renovation on the theatre and to deliver our community and engagement activity plan. The overall scheme is £10.6 million and split into four phases.
