Make Waste Your Business
26th February 2010
Landfill sites are filling-up quickly and each year stricter legislation is imposed on what materials can be disposed of, and how. This is a legal minefield which is becoming an increasingly costly problem for businesses.
Liverpool Chamber of Commerce is working in partnership with the Environment Agency and Liverpool City Council to host a Trade Waste Fair that offers free support and advice to companies in all sectors.
Businesses are invited to drop-in and explore what assistance, funding and opportunities are available to them for managing their commercial waste.
The event will also feature a seminar at which Nick Hopwood of the Environment Agency will provide an overview of how the UK is tackling the problem of waste and how companies can play their part.
Paul Byrne of Liverpool City Council will explain the duty of care which all firms are legally required to demonstrate and the potential costs of falling short of the council's requirements.
Delegates will also hear from Lavinia Cooke of Groundwork Merseyside, who will highlight how firms can improve their resource efficiency through the Enworks programme. Peter Denny of Riverside Housing will provide an informative insight into the group's recent Waste and Recycling initiative, while Adam Strafford will describe the wide range of free business support services offered by Envirolink Northwest.
Maresa Molloy, Head of Policy and Information at Liverpool Chamber explained: "We are seeing an increasing demand for information on waste and this event will give a comprehensive insight on how to deal with the issues of disposal, new revenue streams that can be generated and the support available. We've included a Trade Fair format alongside the seminars to maximise the potential of people meeting companies face to face that they can do business with. Exhibitors include companies that can help with all kinds of waste from food waste, to electrical waste and confidential data destruction."
The event takes place on Wednesday 3rd March between 9:00am - 1:00pm at Blackburne House, Blackburne Place (off Hope Street), Liverpool.
