Liverpool Chamber Announces Award For Arts Patronage

Liverpool Chamber of Commerce is opening its biannual award for commissioned artwork today.
The award, launched in 2008 is designed to recognise and encourage patronage of the arts in Liverpool.
John Entwhistle, a former Chairman of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Trustee of the Royal Academy has generously sponsored the competition for another year. He said: "We aim to encourage business to commission original artwork and continue Liverpool's tradition of patronage of outstanding public artwork, established by the great patrons of the nineteenth century and carried on to this day."
Nic Corke, Chair of Liverpool Chamber's Arts and Culture Committee, stated: "The CBI has recently released a report detailing the importance of the creative sector to the NorthWest economy. Creative industries have a direct benefit and transformative effect on the image of an area, as Anthony Gormley's Another Place or Dream in St Helens have proved, both have become new visitor destinations and a focus for their communities."
The Chamber will present the award to the Liverpool business judged to have commissioned the most impressive work of public artwork in Liverpool since 2005, entry is between between 6th September and 5th November.
Organisations and artists are invited to enter online via a special art map website designed by sponsors, Glow New Media, at www.liverpoolchamberartprize.co.uk/
The winner will be announced at Liverpool Chamber's annual dinner at the Arena & Convention Centre on 2nd December 2010. The winning company will be presented with an individually designed trophy in recognition of their commitment t art commissioning and the winning artwork will receive publicity.
