Energy & Environment Committee

The Chamber's Energy & Environment committee is a well established body representing member's interests in areas including energy security and sustainable development.

To mark the final committee of 2014, we are discussed Green Infrastructure with Paul Nolan, OBE, Director of The Mersey Forest. For the benefit of members, Paul will be outlining the aims and current impacts of the Liverpool GI Strategy which was commissioned by Liverpool City Council to support the long term sustainable plan in Liverpool, particularly focusing on the city's natural assets and green potential. Similarly, a discussion will take place exploring the economic benefits of GI in relation to Liverpool Chamber's current members.

16th September: Last month, we were joined by Cllr James Noakes, the new Mayoral Lead for Energy & Smart City at Liverpool City Council. James gave a thorough presentation outlining his new role and invited members to share their recommendations with him offline.

8th July: As part of the IFB, the committee were at the IFB hub debating the issue of fracking. Helen Rimmer, Friends of the Earth gave an alternative argument heard previously in March, which was followed by a lively and informed discussion.

13th May 2014: With the IFB fast approaching, Richard Tracey, Liverpool Vision was at the Chamber to inform members of the various events linked to low carbon.

4th March 2014: To mark Climate Week, Liverpool Chamber hosted part one of their fracking debate and were joined by two speakers, Andrew Dobbie from the Office of Unconventional Gas and Oil and Gordon Richardson; Associate Director, Arup. 

The Office of Unconventional Gas and Oil was established last year to promote the safe and responsible recovery of the UK's unconventional reserves of gas and oil. Andrew's presentation can be found here.

Arup are currently undertaking Environmental Impact Assessment in the Lancashire Shale Field. Click here for Gordon's presentation which outlines the history, technology and environmental impacts of fracking activity.
