Interest Groups Liverpool Chamber's interest groups are concerned with a range of subjects that have a direct impact upon the local business community. Through them, we aim to be the voice of Liverpool business both locally and nationally. Air Transport Committee The Objectives of the Air Transport Committee are to: • Seek the formulation of an effective airport strategy for North West England • Elicit, represent and communicate to potential providers, the views of business travellers on their requirements for, and expectations of, air transport services • Provide a means of communicating, to Chamber members, news of local air transport developments that are likely to be of direct benefit to their commercial activities and interests • Co-operate with the Ports & Transport Committee in promoting the provision and operation of adequate land transport links to and from Liverpool Airport Environment & Energy Committee The Objectives of the Environment & Energy Committee are to: • Respond to consultation documents on environmental issues • Promote good practice amongst Chamber members • Monitor the implementation of the Mersey Estuary Management Plan • Liase as appropriate with other Chamber Committees, e.g. with the Ports & Transport committee on environmental aspects of transport Planning & Strategy Committee The Objectives of the Planning & Strategy Committee are to: • Provide an ongoing business sector input to the regeneration and development of Liverpool • Liase with the City Council and other agencies in developing a "Vision for Liverpool" and promoting its implementation • Alert and represent business interests on all aspects of rating and related fiscal measures • Work in co-operation with other Chamber committees in promoting the City as a premier business centre in North West England Ports & Transport Committee The Objectives of the Ports & Transport Committee are to: • Seek quality improvements in all elements of Merseyside's public passenger transport and promote the economic integrated use of all the assets • Encourage balanced improvements to the area's transport links • Improve City Centre traffic management to enhance access for all users • Monitor and lobby for the full development of the West Coast Main Line and other main rail routes for both passengers and freight • Maximise the use of the local port facilities to improve shipping links for both passengers and freight • Be alert to regulatory and fiscal measures which may impact on the area's transport • Encourage the development of Green Transport, Travel and Commuter Plans as an integral part of managing a business China Committee The Objectives of the China Committee are to: • Provide an access route for Members and businesses to all aspects of trading, including a wealth of relationships established since the Twinning of Shanghai Chamber with Liverpool Chamber in 1993 • Ensure the support of the local Chinese business community and ensure members with personal experience and deep knowledge of trading in the international China market are made known to members embarking upon trade with China • Ensure the connections which have been built with national political and organisational players regionally, nationally,and internationally are accessible to other members Finance & Economic Affairs Committee The Objectives of the Finance & Economic Affairs Committee are to: • Play a leading role in the provision of information on the local economy, initiating specific reports where necessary • Act as a source of informed business views on the local and national economy • Bring to the attention of the Chamber Council, economic issues that affect local business and help to lobby for change where necessary • Monitor financial changes (particularly those in the Budget). Comment on them and inform local debate • Review the MQES and comment on its findings in the media International Trade Committee The Objectives of the International Trade Committee are to: • To guide the Chamber of Commerce with the development of the international trade services to provide a better service for companies • To generate innovative ideas to apply for funding streams • To assess new ways of promoting international trade and services to assist companies • To create an electronic forum whereby companies in international trade can communicate with one another • To organise face to face networking events • To represent the views of members on issues affecting international trade, for example, interest rates and Euro • To influence the relevant providers of international trade services to ensure that the business community is best served To learn more about the above groups then please email our policy unit.
