This event will focus on sustainability, the environment and energy. We welcome speakers from two local businesses who have excellent knowledge on these matters.

About this event

Firstly, we will hear from Clare Atkinson, Director of Research & Development and Josh Holland, Business Operations Manager at NuGreen.

NuGreen was founded in 2020 by Charlie Pillans and Clare Atkinson to investigate how the healthcare industry can become more sustainable and to ensure that the industry reaches its net zero goals. What started off as a solo research and development project for Clare, when she was working at Q Medical Technologies, has grown into a small team of six over the past 10 months, with Josh coming onboard in January 2022 to help drive NuGreen’s vision forward.

NuGreen is working alongside local NHS Trusts to lead them to a truly sustainable future and to assist them with implementing a circular approach to their supply chain and waste management processes. As part of the work being done with the NHS, NuGreen are working on utilising medical waste to turn it new products that can be utilised both inside and outside the healthcare sector. NuGreen is part of the Pillans Group along with Q Medical technologies, Q Interventional Technologies and qpeople.

Throughout the presentation Clare and Josh will be discussing what true sustainability is, why we should be taking a circular approach to the economy and how their perception of plastics has changed.

Following Clare and Josh we will hear from Will Barden, Managing Director, Barden Biomass Ltd

Barden Biomass is a company dedicated to delivering the highest quality locally sourced wood fuel, along with biomass system servicing and maintenance. Will, is hugely passionate about biomass, biomass boilers and the environment. His passion stems from his time working as a tree surgeon seeing the amount of waste wood that was not being utilised in Cumbria.

During his presentation he will tell the story behind the business, from start up to where it is now and his hopes for the future. He will touch upon one of the biggest issues facing businesses this winter, namely the huge cost of energy. Sharing his knowledge of the industry and the Renewable Heat Incentive he will deliver practical advice on what business owners can do to mitigate fuel costs.

We will end with a Q&A session where attendees will have an opportunity to direct their questions to our panel.
