Wed, January 17th, 2018

Grants of £2000 are available to support SMEs in providing a 3 month internship

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers internship scheme, delivered through Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), offers grants of £2000 to assist small to medium businesses in providing work experience placements to students studying a degree in mechanical/mechanical & marine/mechanical & management/manufacturing engineering. Taking part would help your organisation:

  • Gain additional resources to provide in-house company solutions whilst providing real-world work experience
  • Engage with the latest talent and potentially your future workforce
  • Gain a placement student for three months at a cost to your organisation of just £1099 (approx)

The scheme is open to students within the second and third year of their degree course and the grant is intended to offset the majority of the student’s salary cost during the placement. It is expected that internships will take place between 21 May and 14 September 2018 (based on 140 hours per month).

How to apply:
If you wish to apply to host an LJMU student during 2018 please contact internships@ljmu.ac.uk for a project form.  Places are limited so apply as quickly as possible.

Feedback from a previous host organisation:
“Tangible benefits were achieved for ACE Fabreeka UK through the LJMU internship scheme in the summer of 2017. The intern was a superb ambassador for the University and was able to quickly apply engineering knowledge learnt from the classroom into a ‘real-world’ product development and manufacturing environment. It was a pleasure having the intern and it was a shame that they could not be retained for longer because they would have made a high performing permanent addition to the ACE Fabreeka UK team. This positive experience of working with LJMU has given ACE Fabreeka UK confidence in hiring two Manufacturing Systems Degree Apprentices. A wholehearted and well deserved ‘thank you’ is given to all of the staff at LJMU who have played their part in student progression. This dedication to the profession is critical for developing the future leaders of engineering activities and will improve UK PLC’s standing in the world of commerce and industry.”
