Sean Keyes, CEO of long-established civil and structural engineering firm Sutcliffe, is appealing to fellow Liverpool City Region companies to bolster the hospice after it provided exceptional end-of-life care for his father in 2025.
Sean was deeply moved by the support his family received, and has become a dedicated advocate for the hospice charity, which must raise over £4 million annually to provide specialist care to the local community.
Sutcliffe has already turned this commitment into action through hands-on fundraising. Most recently, the company supported the hospice’s annual Christmas Tree Collection initiative. By mobilising a team of volunteers, the effort successfully collected more than 860 trees, generating over £15,000 in crucial funds.
Now, Sean is challenging other local businesses to explore ways they can contribute that support to help the hospice’s future.
Sean Keyes, CEO of Sutcliffe, said:
“St. Joseph’s Hospice cared for my father with absolute dignity, compassion, and respect during the most difficult of times. The solace they provided our family was immeasurable. Many people don’t realise that as an independent charity, their existence depends entirely on community fundraising. If more local businesses step forward, we can collectively ensure this irreplaceable service remains a cornerstone of Liverpool for generations to come.”
St. Joseph’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care and support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Merseyside. Operating independently, it relies on donations, fundraising, and community partnerships to deliver its vital services.
Abi Smith, Income and Business Development Manager at St. Joseph’s Hospice, added:
“We are profoundly thankful for Sean’s passionate leadership and the incredible drive of the entire Sutcliffe team. Building meaningful relationships with Liverpool’s business community is essential. Sean’s personal advocacy and Sutcliffe’s practical support are already making a significant impact, directly helping us to continue providing expert, compassionate care to our patients and their loved ones.”
Businesses can support St. Joseph’s Hospice through various avenues, including corporate partnerships, event sponsorship, team fundraising challenges, and employee volunteering programmes.
