Opportunity knocks as public-private sector delegation lands at MIPIM

At our Property & Construction Network (PropCon) event earlier this month, Nuala Gallagher, corporate director of city development at Liverpool City Council, provided an upbeat summary of the various regeneration and development schemes moving forward across the city.

The North Docks Mayoral Development Corporation offers huge scope for positive change, catalysed by Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, which Nuala described as “one of the greatest regeneration opportunities for decades”, connected into plans for the newly-renamed Kings project led by Beetham Davos.

Planned construction projects at Pall Mall and HEMISPHERE will bring forward much-needed Grade A commercial space, and hopefully a consequential impact on prime rental values, while renewal ambitions at Central and Moorfields stations highlight the essential focus on enhancing infrastructure and connectivity.

This is complemented by and intertwined with a substantial programme of investment by Homes England which aims to deliver the homes that people need, both for today and tomorrow. Bryan Burt, head of development finance at Homes England, outlined to delegates at the same PropCon event how the organisation works patiently and supportively with construction SMEs, often in complex circumstances, to unlock funding and ways to deliver crucial new housing stock.

There is plenty of room for optimism about the future shape of our built environment, all of which provides the ideal context as a large public-private sector delegation heads out to MIPIM this week in a bid to capitalise on a renewed sense of optimism and interest in our city region and deliver a clear message that now is the time to invest.

If we want to attract significant investment, create sustainable jobs and develop the commercial and residential spaces we need to support that growth, then we must use platforms such as MIPIM to showcase why we are such a good proposition for investors.

The relationship between the public and private sector is a crucial ingredient to any ongoing success and it’s great to see so many Liverpool Chamber members once again joining the delegation at MIPIM and other high-profile events such as UKREiiF.

This spirit can also be found in the everyday actions and engagements that we have with local policymakers, sharing a mutual commitment to maintaining a regular and open dialogue to and ensuring that the voices of business are sought and heard in the development of policy decisions.

The delegation knows that it has our full support as it endeavours to bring home the investment opportunities that will help to drive economic growth, create jobs and deliver the homes, workspaces and transport we need for the future.
