Kimpton has completed the first phase of a major installation at Central Quay BTR scheme in Cardiff.
Kimpton’s high-rise residential MEP division has completed the first phase of a major installation in Cardiff.
Central Quay is a BTR scheme on the former Brains Brewery site in the city, led by Watkin Jones. It includes two interlinked 23-storey towers comprising 718 apartments, as well as a concierge, lobby, gym, gardens, roof gardens and terraces, as well as nearly 20,000 sq ft of leisure and retail space.
Phase one of the development is now complete and Kimpton’s £6.7m heating, ventilation and plumbing installation reflects its high-specification and the importance of sustainability within the build.
To minimise water waste and deliver plentiful supply suitable for families, 200-litre internal heat pump cylinders have been installed, while a multi-extract vent system and heat recovery system maximise efficiency and ensure any heat generated is cleaned and recycled.
Paul Davies, divisional director at Kimpton, said:
“At Central Quay, the high-end apartments and facilities are designed for long term living and as such it features some very high-tech heating, ventilation and hot water solutions, way above the norm for the BTR sector. A great and rewarding challenge for our MEP team.
“Safety is rightly also a primary concern, so the riser and sprinkler system, connected to a reinforced GRP tank and pump system, can deliver 740 litres of water per minute, creating a highly-effective solution for potential fire control in the towers.
“This development is best-in-class and we are proud to be playing our part in delivering it.”
