Over 200 families to benefit from South Liverpool Affordable Housing approval

Liverpool City Council has granted planning approval for Plus Dane Group's proposal for the Welsh Streets area of Toxteth in South Liverpool. The proposal includes the demolition of 400 terraced homes, the refurbishment of 37 homes (including the childhood home of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr on Madryn Street), and the delivery of 200 new homes close to Princes Park. The scheme, whilst being a key strand in Liverpool City Council's Housing Strategy, has not been without its controversy over the planned demolition. Today's resolution will now be subject to referral to the Secretary of State.

Hannah Smith, Associate of Arup who managed the planning process, said: "The strength of public support for the scheme and the comments from local residents at Planning Committee are testament to the Arup lead community consultation and engagement strategy we have employed on behalf of Plus Dane to Welsh Streets."

Hannah added: "Once built out, the scheme will make a real difference to the lives of local residents securing much needed regeneration within this tight-knit community."
