Yesterday the Liverpool office of business advisory firm KPMG held a free sports activity day for more than 520 local schoolchildren at Wavertree Tennis Centre.

Children from 20 Merseyside schools were given the opportunity to try out tennis and a variety of other sporting pursuits, with coaches on hand to show them how it’s done.

More than 50 staff from the firm’s Princes Parade office were also in attendance, treating the local kids to a series of sports-themed games.

The activities were designed to promote the importance of numeracy in a fun and engaging way and included Basket Ball Maths, Times Tables Football Pool, Giant Kerplunk and Inflatable Darts.

The day formed part of KPMG’s sponsorship of The Williams BMW Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2019. The 18h edition of the tournament is taking place between 19 to 23 June 2019 at The Liverpool Cricket Club.

Euan West, Office Senior Partner at KPMG in Liverpool, said: “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed running another sports day for local schools following the success of last year’s event. The number of pupils has grown, meaning we’ve been able to give even more young people a chance to try their hand at a new activity.

“We’re also a big supporter of National Numeracy Day, which aims to encourage the improvement of essential numeracy skills, so it was an added bonus to offer games that showed how important a part of sport maths is. Thanks to everyone who made the day happen. The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is a great event for the city, and it’s been very rewarding to get as many people involved as possible.”
