The Smaller Earth Foundation is a brand new charitable organisation, which has been formed by Smaller Earth Group. After 20 years of providing life changing cultural exchange opportunities to almost 100,000 people, Smaller Earth has realised a long-held ambition to establish our Foundation.

We are at the start of the journey, so we're looking for a dedicated individual who can take the reins on this project.

Aims of the Smaller Earth Foundation:

1. To raise the profile of lifechanging international cultural exchange opportunities and their impact.

2. To raise funds to enable participation in these opportunities for people who would not normally take part in them.

3. To distribute these funds to organisations and individuals who will benefit from them.

About the Project Manager Role:

We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and driven individual who will be tasked with establishing the Foundation during it's early stages, and helping it grow into the future. This person will play an important role in helping to shape the structure and function of the Foundation.

The role will be based at the Smaller Earth Head Office at Liverpool's Albert Dock, where you'll work closely with the Smaller Earth's CEO, Founders, and other Trustees from within the cultural exchange industry.


•Promote the Smaller Earth Foundation: Carry out marketing and public relations activities to raise the profile of the Smaller Earth Foundation.

•Monitor promotional materials: Oversee the production of promotional and fundraising materials alongside our Marketing team.

•Organise initiatives: Create, plan, and organise fundraising initiatives and events.

•Raise funds: Approach potential donors, maintain donor lists, and apply for grants and other sources of funding.

•Recruit volunteers: Oversee the recruitment and coordination of volunteers for various events.

•Establish & maintain relationships: Liaise with external agencies, including voluntary sector organisations, the media, universities, business contacts, trustees, and other stakeholders or clients.

•Administration: Carry out administrative tasks, such as managing budgets, gathering data, preparing reports, database management and clerical work.

Salary & Conditions:

•£18,000 to £25,000 per annum (pro rata commensurate with experience)
•Start date negotiable, but as early as possible in 2020.
•Core working part-time hours to be agreed. This role has the potential to increase to full–time.
•Employed initially as a Smaller Earth staff member and seconded to the Foundation – having all the benefits of a Smaller Earth employee.
•Some flexibility may be required to attend events which may occur during evenings and weekends.
•Work is mostly office-based, but will involve travel.

Required Qualities & Skills:

•Values: Belief and commitment in the values and aims of the Smaller Earth Foundation and Smaller Earth as a whole.
•Mentality: Possess initiative, with a start-up mentality, and have a passion for making a positive impact through cultural exchange.
•Knowledge: Of various sectors, including the cultural exchange industry, the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors, and of marketing & PR methods.
•Communication skills: Be able to build successful relationships through written, oral, and interpersonal methods.
•Administration & management skills: Manage your time well, including multi-tasking and prioritisation. Be able to accomplish research, analysis, and planning tasks, and possess financial and numerical skills.
•Creativity & flexibility: Be able to learn quickly and adapt as the Smaller Earth Foundation goes through various stages of growth.
