Responding to Coronavirus

Thu, March 19th, 2020

Paul Cherpeau, Chief Executive of Liverpool Chamber:

As events move at a speed none of us could have anticipated even a week ago, the Chamber will be focussing its activity over the coming weeks on the impact of the Coronavirus on our members. Our priorities will be to share practical advice and support, answer your queries where we can, signpost you where we can’t and understand the specific issues impacting on your business so we can feedback to politicians and officials at a national, city region and local level. These really are unchartered waters and the more information we have the better. We have outlined ways in which you can access information and proactively engage below.

In terms of immediate financial support we welcomed the announcement on Wednesday that the government is initiating such a comprehensive and substantial support package for businesses but we now need clear and unambiguous detail about how all businesses can access the financial support and the conditions that will apply to them. Organisations in some sectors are already facing unprecedented challenges and the depressing reality is that some will not survive. Cash is king for the private sector and it is vital that the process for accessing this package of support is streamlined or we will see more and more businesses struggle.

Whilst access to finance is key other issues requiring urgent practical advice include business continuity and recovery, HR advice, insurance, IT solutions and staff health and wellbeing. Every government announcement on coronavirus impacts on business in some way and we are talking to our members who are experts in their respective fields to identify relevant support in these areas which we will share with you. Our thanks to Hill Dickinson, The PC Support Group, Mitchell Charlesworth and MHA Moore and Smalley for their contributions below.

In addition to our regular updates we will be sharing information through our Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin

I can’t promise we will have all the answers but let me emphasise that the team is here to help you in whatever practical way we can – you can find our details below.
