Latest Update on the Covid Mass Testing Programme

Mon, November 9th, 2020

As of Monday 9th November, 23,170 people have taken part in the first few days..

We are able to announce that as of Monday 9th November, 23,170 people have taken part in the first few days of the pilot, with 154 people (0.7 per cent) testing positive. In addition, 14,000 home testing kits have been sent out to local residents.

We are still advising people to book if they can by visiting www.gov.uk/testliverpool or by calling 119. However, we are now pushing a stronger message that they can just walk up to one of the mass testing centres as long as they don’t have symptoms.

Today (Tuesday) we start the first phase of mass testing in secondary schools, for those children whose parents have given consent. In relation to primary schools, we will be asking parents of under 11s to take their children to mass testing centres.

The benefits

There will be short term pain in terms of people who test positive having to self-isolate, but the long term gain is that by identifying people before they display symptoms, we will drive the transmission rate down in the city and get life back to normal more quickly.

Key messages

We are continuing to liaise with the national Department of Health and Social Care team and feedback intelligence we are receiving from people’s experiences of going through the testing process. This is helping to identify and iron out pinch points in the booking system, and allow us to improve the testing experience, including in relation to inclusion and accessibility.
