International Women's Day blog by Gaynor Williams, Joint Honorary Secretary of the Liverpool Law Society and Solicitor and Partner of Bennett Williams Solicitors

The theme for IWD 2021 is “choose to challenge” to promote an equal world. I would urge all women to fulfil their dreams however distant or unachievable they may seem, anything is possible.

“I was one of those women, married at 22 and then having 3 children. I was hesitant to pursue a career in law, but I chose to take on the challenge. I have always been passionate about inequality and justice, and this is why I was drawn to studying law. I was not a stereotypical law student, I did not have an academic background, and I did not attend University.

“Having a passion for law, and a drive to succeed, helped me through the years while I studied part time, juggling full time work, and bringing up my family. I initially qualified as a Legal Executive, and then carried on with my studies to qualify as a Solicitor. I am now a Partner at Bennett Williams Solicitors, and Joint Honorary Secretary at Liverpool Law Society.

“I echo the quote by Gloria Steinem, a journalist and feminist “the story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all”.
