MHA Moore and Smalley grows Liverpool tax team with two appointments

North West accountancy and business advisory firm MHA Moore and Smalley has made two significant appointments to strengthen its tax advisory team within its Liverpool office.

Andy Disley has joined the firm as a senior manager in the tax advisory team and he is accompanied by Paul Clough as a tax consultant. Both will be based in the firm’s Liverpool office.

Tony Reddin, tax advisory partner, MHA Moore and Smalley, said:

“The tax landscape is rapidly changing for UK and international businesses and there is a real demand for high-quality advice on a range of tax-related matters.

“Andy and Paul’s experience has given them a deep understanding of the issues businesses in the Liverpool City Region, North Wales and wider North West face day-to-day. Their appointment will further strengthen the support we provide for tax clients from our Liverpool office across a variety of sectors.”

Within Andy’s role he will specialise in international tax matters for both owner-managed businesses and larger corporates. He brings significant experience in the property and sports industries, having joined the firm from City Football Group (owners of Manchester City FC) where he was a senior tax manager.

He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Accounting Technicians.

On his appointment, Andy said:

“During my career, MHA Moore and Smalley has always stood out to me as a company with a strong culture and vision. This was confirmed during the conversations I had with the firm prior to joining.

“Within my new role, I look forward to advising businesses and their owners across the Liverpool City Region, North Wales and the wider North West to ensure their business structures and transactions are tax efficient and comply with ever more complex tax legislation.”

On a similar sporting note, Paul Clough joins the firm not from the world of football, but rugby league. His career included around 10 years with Super League side St. Helens, where he won two Challenge Cup trophies and three League Leaders’ Shield.

After retiring, he began a career in financial planning working for Merseyside-based Tailored Financial Planning, where he worked as an independent financial adviser, having progressed through a number of different roles with the firm from paraplanner to director.

Paul said:

“MHA Moore and Smalley has a strong reputation in the Merseyside area and when an opportunity arose to join the firm, I was keen to take it.

“I’m looking forward to learning from the firm’s experienced and highly regarded tax partners and gaining further insight in matters such as business restructuring, exit readiness and succession planning.”

As a tax consultant he will specialise in advising both corporate and private clients from across the North West on a variety of issues including inheritance tax mitigation, profit extraction for owner managed businesses, retirement planning and estate planning.

Michael Spencer, tax advisory partner, MHA Moore and Smalley said:

“Myself and Tony have had the pleasure of working with Andy in the past and know he is a high-calibre tax advisor. With his rugby career and background in financial planning Paul brings a unique perspective which will benefit our clients.

“I welcome both Andy and Paul to the firm and very much look forward to what they will bring to the business and to our clients.”
