The Brain Charity is thrilled to announce the return of its annual open day, Head Matters 2025, taking place on Wednesday, March 12th, from 10 AM to 4 PM at The Brain Charities Norton Street, Liverpool centre.
This year’s event will focus on the transformative power of new technology and digital innovation in neurology, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with leading specialists in the field.
Head Matters 2025 will feature an impressive lineup of guest speakers, each sharing their expertise and groundbreaking research:
Professor Penny Lewis:
- A leading sleep scientist and author of “The Secret World of Sleep,” Professor Lewis will explore the profound impact of sleep on memory, creativity, and mental well-being.
- Her TEDx talk, “Sleep-Engineering: Improve Your Life By Manipulating Your Sleep,” has garnered over 1.8 million views.
- Professor Lewis will discuss sleep engineering for health and cognition, how sleep changes memories, tackling depression and PTSD with sleep, boosting creativity through sleep, and optimizing sleep quality.
Professor Damien Coyle:
- A pioneer in brain-computer interface (BCI) development, Professor Coyle, Professor of Neurotechnology at the University of Bath and Founder & CEO of NeuroCONCISE Ltd, will delve into the latest advancements in neurotechnology and AI.
- His research focuses on transforming how we assess and assist individuals with neurological conditions. Professor Coyle will discuss AI-enabled BCIs, awareness assessment after brain injury, BCIs for rehabilitation and assistive technology, and neurogaming for cognitive training.
Alex Keyter:
- Founder of Generative Minds, Alex Keyter is an AI engineer, software developer, educator, and public speaker passionate about leveraging technology for good.
- He will explore the practical applications of assistive AI for neurological conditions. Keyter will cover framing difficult conversations with AI, emotional support and reframing, smart research and community support using AI, and the future of assistive AI, including speech-to-text tools and brain-computer interfaces.
After our three guest expert speakers have concluded their talks our CEO Pippa Sargent will be leading a panel discussion (Neurotech futures – friend or foe) from 3:15pm – 3:45pm. The panel will focus on tech and digital innovation in neurology.
Head Matters 2025 will also feature a number of stalls and tech demonstrations. Head up to The Brain Charity’s Neurogym throughout the day for a series of short demonstrations showcasing cutting-edge health and wellness technologies.
