Transforming transport across the North of England

Fri, February 2nd, 2018

What does it mean in reality?

Transport for the North recently published its draft Strategic Transport Plan for consultation. The thirty year plan is the first of its kind and outlines how transport connections across the North of England need to be transformed by 2050 to drive growth and close the economic gap between the North and the rest of England.

You can read the Plan, and find out how to respond to the consultation, on their website at The Chamber will be responding to the consultation and we would encourage all Chamber Members to engage in the process where possible and respond to the consultation either direct or via the Chamber (please send any comments to by Friday 16 March).

The consultation provides a real opportunity to not only identify how the proposals could support your business but also to have your say on whether or not you think the right priorities have been identified to support economic growth across the city region.

Crucially however it will ensure that the private sector voice plays a key role in making the economic case to the government for funding to support these proposals.

As part of the Plan, Transport for the North have identified seven strategic development corridors across our region, identifying multi-modal investment priorities in the short, medium and long term. These corridors link important economic centres that are currently in need of improved connectivity. You can find out more about the corridors and the feasibility studies for them at

They have arranged a number of corridor-focused progress briefings where they will present the evidence they have gathered, how they have used feedback from stakeholders, and explain the objectives and outcomes that have been agreed for each corridor.

Attendance at the corridor progress briefings is by registration only; to register please use the links below:
