Liverpool to mark Armed Forces Week 2025

Liverpool will mark Armed Forces Week with a series of events.

The commemorative events begin on Monday 23 June with the Armed Forces Week flag being flown from Liverpool Town Hall, raised by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Barbara Murray. The flag raising will follow a civic reception attended by senior representatives of the Armed Forces, the Merchant Navy and the Royal British Legion.

During the week, to mark Reserves Day, Liverpool City Council staff who volunteer to serve our Armed Forces will be invited to a civic reception at the Town Hall with the Lord Mayor.

The city’s annual service, for invited guests, will be held at Liverpool Parish Church, on Saturday 28 June. Following this, at around 11am, the band of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Liverpool Scottish Association, and veterans and cadets, will be at the Pier Head. Members of the public will be able to watch them on parade in front of the Three Graces.

The Town Hall, Cunard Building and St George’s Hall will also be lit red, white and blue from 27 – 30 June.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Barbara Murray, said:

“We are proud to mark the long association Liverpool has had with the Armed Forces.

“Current and past service personnel have made an invaluable contribution to the safety and security of countries around the world.

“We owe them all a debt of gratitude for their personal sacrifices in making the world a safer place for us all.”

Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Christine Banks, added:

“Armed Forces Week is an opportunity to thank the individuals who put their lives on the line to protect others.

“In an increasingly uncertain world, we need to be thankful of their work more than ever.”
