Liverpool to discover European Capital of Innovation 2026 verdict

Liverpool will find out tomorrow if it has won the prestigious title of European Capital of Innovation 2026.

If successful, it will become the first UK city to hold the iCapital accolade and claim a €1 million prize. Liverpool’s fellow finalists this year are Rotterdam and Grenoble-Alpes Métropole.

The decision will be announced at a special ceremony tomorrow (approx. 10.45am GMT) in Turin, Italy, which will be streamed live here. A delegation of business and civic leaders from the city region will be in Turin to hear the announcement.

Winning this accolade could have similar long-term, positive benefits for Liverpool’s economy and global reputation to its European Capital of Culture status in 2008, with greater career opportunities in science and technology, public service improvements, and access to more new partnerships, funding, and global investors.

Best of luck to Team Liverpool!
