Spending Review – Chamber Comment

The Chancellor must use today’s Comprehensive Spending Review to allow businesses to thrive and help to grow the economy in the Liverpool City Region, according to Liverpool Chamber chief executive Paul Cherpeau.

He said:

“Businesses will want to see that the government is creating an environment where their future plans can become a reality, led by a transformational plan for transport, digital and energy infrastructure to remove long-term obstacles to growth.

“This should include the proposed new Liverpool-Manchester railway line, which could solve long-standing problems for freight and passenger movement, alongside enhanced support to unlock the city region’s existing strengths in health and life sciences innovation.

“As the city region lead for the Local Skills Improvement Plan, we would welcome any measures that help to increase business engagement with skills investment and provision, while also overhauling the Apprenticeship Levy to provide greater focus on training and making it easier for industry to influence the future skills agenda. We also await further details on the trailed Tech First investment in AI education for students.”
