Neptune Brewery Announces Local Charity Beer Project

Independent, female co-owned brewery partners with local charity to brew a special beer to highlight women’s roles in the brewing industry and to raise money and awareness for domestic abuse support services.

North Liverpool’s Neptune Brewery recently brewed Sangfroid, meaning composure shown in trying circumstances, which is a 3% Small IPA, celebrating mindful, tasty drinking. Brewed by the ladies of Neptune for the Global Ladies of Wort GLOW ALONG 2021, who aim to highlight female representation in the beer industry, proceeds from this project will go to local women’s charity, Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid.

The GLOW ALONG Project

The GLOW ALONG is the brainchild of a cross-borders brewing collective known as G.L.O.W (Global Ladies of Wort). Their mission is to attempt to abolish gender roles in the beer industry, being focused on highlighting female representation in all aspects of the beer scene. The GLOW ALONG is an annual event, in which breweries from across the globe are invited to a brew-along, making a beer of their choosing using a special blend of hops supplied by Yakima Chief Hops. Yakima Chief will be donating €10 from each kilogram of hops bought by each brewery to their own nominated charity, with all breweries matching that donation, meaning lots of different international charities will benefit.

Speaking on Neptune Brewery’s participation in this year’s GLOW ALONG, brewery co-founder Julie O’ Grady said:

“Too often women can be stereotyped into roles. We need to
move away from that. The beer industry is one of those places that is still very much male-dominated. Any role is possible if you strive and work hard for it. More women are now
taking up various roles in the industry which is great to see.”

About The Charity Partner

Neptune’s Sales & Beer Experience Manager, Chess Slattery picked the charity partner Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid (SWACA). They provide free emotional and practical support to women, children and young people, residing in the Sefton area of Merseyside, who are impacted by domestic abuse. Both parties are also passionate about promoting sensible drinking:

“We were committed to choosing a small charity that was local to us and had the support of women at its heart. We promote sensible drinking and wanted to use this project to raise
awareness of the services SWACA offer for those impacted by domestic abuse as well as fundraise for the charity and, together, be a great force for good.”

The team at SWACA have been working with Neptune on making the most of the partnership:

“We are delighted that a local, female-led company has chosen us as their charity partner. We are united in our shared passion and determination to support women. The collaboration
between Neptune Brewery and SWACA, and the money raised through this project, will make a positive difference to the women and children we support.”

Sangfroid Launch Event

With generous amounts of dry-hopping to showcase the Yakima Chief Cryo Hops®, drinkers can expect a juicy and floral, easy-drinking beer. Sangfroid will be launched at Neptune’s own taproom and bar, based in Sefton Industrial Estate in Maghull, on Saturday 2nd October. £1 from every pint and 50p from every half pint of Sangfroid sold on its launch day will also be donated to SWACA. Members of the SWACA team will be in attendance and happy to chat to anyone on the day looking to learn more about the charity and its services, and Neptune will be displaying SWACA literature and collection tins throughout October to help with signposting and further fundraising for this crucial service.

Sangfroid will then go on general sale from 6th October, available in cask, keg and can at retailers across the country, with cans also being available to purchase directly on the
Neptune webshop https://neptune-brewery.myshopify.com All cans will sport a QR code for any drinkers keen to donate to support SWACA.
