Taking the first steps on our ESG journey

Back in April 2022, MHA Moore and Smalley, a North West based provider of accountancy, audit, tax and advisory services, decided that we needed to address our ESG approach and develop a strategy that clearly defines short-, medium- and long-term goals in a bid to deliver on sustainability as a business.

A year on and we are proud to have outlined an ESG strategy that celebrates our achievements so far and sets our goals for positive environmental, social and governance changes we as a community can make to deliver a sustainable tomorrow, today.

We have set out our own Sustainability Promise, which fully supports the UK government’s ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero carbon by 2050 by ensuring MHA perform all reasonable procedures to be a net zero organisation by 2030.

The aim of reaching net zero is to create a sustainable future for the next generation. In our ESG approach, we recognise that our young people also need to have social sustainability to enjoy the more stable environment achieved from a lower carbon footprint. Specifically, we are committed to improving access to financial education to equip the next generation with essential economic skills, which is currently lacking from our national curriculum.

Through our Purpose Projects which are guided by our purposes and values, we have partnered with UK Community Foundations to support projects and organisations with a focus on Financial Education with vital funding to make a positive impact on the communities across our office locations.

This is the decade for action, not only for environmental change but for social development. MHA strive to be a forward-thinking firm who is dedicated to actively engaging and encouraging diversity and inclusion in the workplace and protecting our people’s health and wellbeing from the pressures of the modern world. We have just launched our Health and Wellbeing strategy, recruiting a team of champions to support their colleagues and promote initiatives and events focussing on encouraging healthy work-life balance.

We are committed to providing our people, our clients, and our suppliers with the support necessary to enable them to contribute meaningfully to achieving our ESG goals, and over forthcoming editions of the Voices of Business newsletter we’ll share with you some of our achievements to date in greater detail as well as some of our ambition targets to help us reach our net zero objective.
