The Momentum Group and 2030hub to host conference encouraging greater sustainability in property sector

Leading North West property company, The Momentum Group, has partnered with Liverpool’s unique 2030hub to host a conference to debate the sustainability challenges facing the built environment.

Taking place on 20th September at Aloft Hotel on North John Street in Liverpool, ‘Building A Sustainable City Beyond 2030’ aims to ignite crucial discussions on embedding sustainability in the city region’s property sector, ensuring it plays a central role in driving positive change. Confirmed speakers include:

• Ed Green, sustainability director, Grosvenor Property UK
• Martijn Horsman, sustainable development manager, Redevco
• Pete Swift, co-founder, Planit -IE
• Simon Mansfield, sustainability manager, Liverpool City Council
• Sophie West, senior sustainability consultant, Savills
• Sunny Johal, development director, Glenbrook
• Matt Breakwell , business development manager, Kimpton

A key objective of the conference is to create an ongoing Liverpool City Region Sustainable Property Taskforce to identify and implement key actions, with the speakers sharing their insight and expertise, stirring debate via a concluding panel discussion.

The conference coincides with Global Goals Week, which runs from 15th to 24th September to highlight the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Liverpool is one of only two cities in the world formally marking Global Goals Week, the other being New York. The goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Karl Clawley, The Momentum Group’s Associate Director, said:

“The built environment is a huge consumer of raw materials, a producer of carbon emissions and a creator of waste streams. Decarbonising the sector is one of the most effective ways the industry can address its role in the climate emergency. This conference and our collaboration with 2030hub underscore a commitment to creating a platform for robust discussions, knowledge exchange and actionable outcomes.

“Ultimately at The Momentum Group we want to encourage others to implement sustainability in their operations and assets, to change mindsets, to engage more, and help make cities sustainable and liveable in the long term.”

Certified B Corp, 2030hub is the world’s first UN Local2030 Hub, created to make cities and businesses stronger and with the mission to inspire, cross-fertilise and support places and businesses wanting to accelerate positive impact.

David Connor, 2030hub CEO, said:

“We are at a pivotal juncture in human history and the planet is demanding far more action than we are seeing. We must encourage the property sector to engage proactively in meaningfully sustainable practices to navigate a challenging climate future. The best way to fuel sustainable development globally is to light fires locally, ensuring that every city, every business, every community group and every citizen also acts. We are delighted that The Momentum Group have shown leadership in this crucial area within the Liverpool City Region.”

Under its Momentum Contribute initiative, The Momentum Group has embraced three of the UN’s SDGs in its operations – affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities and responsible consumption and production – and is also working towards B Corp certification.
