Running to Be Free: David’s First 5K, for a Great Cause!

Last Sunday, David, SquareOne’s very own Customer Care Manager, took part in the beautiful Port Sunlight 5K in support of the incredible Be Free Campaign.

Be Free Campaign is a youth-led charity doing important work. With a focus on mental health, they provide evidence-based, culturally informed support to young people aged 11–25.

They believe mental health support should be early, accessible, and shaped by those with lived experience. They deliver preventive programmes, early intervention counselling, and mental health education for schools and communities, while campaigning for a fairer, more inclusive mental health system across the UK.

“It honestly meant a lot to run for such a meaningful cause. Mental health is something that touches all of us in one way or another, and it's personally very close to my heart. Being able to contribute to a charity making a real difference in people’s lives felt incredibly rewarding.

Even though I’m very active with sports and exercise, this was actually my first time running a 5K and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But after completing it, I think I might have even caught the running bug, though I’m not sure my legs have fully forgiven me yet!” — David Andrews, SquareOne Training

With a Be Free cheer point along the route keeping David going with their energy and support, we’re thrilled to share that he completed the race in just 27 minutes and 55 seconds!

David is already planning his next race, another way to support the Be Free Campaign, and no doubt he’ll be rallying the rest of the SquareOne team to get involved too.

So far, David has raised £130, and we’re excited to share that all donations will be doubled, thanks to the support of The Big Give campaign. Every penny goes toward supporting the amazing work Be Free is doing in our community.

“A huge thanks to everyone who’s supported or donated so far. It really spurred me on to try my best for such a great cause.”

We’re also pleased to share some amazing feedback from the Be Free Campaign team themselves:

“David's support, through fundraising and cheering us on, was incredible! It was such a lovely day and we're so grateful to have had his support for one of Be Free's first challenge events!” — Becca Thomlinson, Partnerships & Engagement Officer

“Thank you to David for taking on his first 5K for the Be Free Campaign. His incredible fundraising will go towards our goal of raising £10,000 as part of The Big Give Small Charities Week. Our target of £5,000, doubled to £10,000 by The Big Give, will help us reach an additional 1,000 children and young people by June 2026, providing life-saving mental health support. Thank you for being a part of our movement!” — Danika Leahey, Director of Operations

We’re so proud of David and grateful to everyone who supported him on this journey. Together, we’re helping to create a stronger, more supportive community for young people across the UK.
This work aligns perfectly with our ongoing mission here at SquareOne Training.

We’ve learned about the Be Free Campaign and the incredible work they do, built meaningful relationships with their team, and we aim to inspire our own community to play their part.
