Overview
Merseyrail is dedicated to supporting local businesses within the Liverpool City Region by providing them with a unique opportunity to engage with our passengers.
This initiative will offer local businesses the chance to showcase their products and services at designated spaces within our stations, increasing their visibility and building connections with the local community.
This initiative places a strong emphasis on supporting local businesses, fostering community engagement, and enhancing public transport as a hub for economic growth.
Objectives
Local Business Week has several key objectives:
- Support local businesses – Provide a cost effective promotional opportunity for businesses within a specified radius of our stations.
- Enhance customer experience – Introduce passengers to diverse local offerings, adding value to their journey.
- Showcase Merseyrail business opportunities – Demonstrate the commercial potential of advertising on our network for future financial gain.
Who will be eligible to take part?
To take part, businesses must be located within:
- 1-mile radius for high-footfall Merseyrail stations.
- 2-mile radius for Merseyrail stations with lower footfall.
- Public liability insurance of £5,000,000
How will it work?
Each business will be asked to apply and choose their key station to create a pop-up activation, all Merseyrail stations are applicable.
Businesses can only offer giveaways, run competition and do general promotions “no direct sales or transactions will be permitted at the station pop-up activation areas.
Select up to three stations in a 1-2-3 preference order just in case your first choice is not available, but Merseyrail can secure your 2nd or 3rd station choice.
Timing & Logistics
Local business week will run from Monday 22nd – Friday 26th September 2025. Some station spaces may not be under cover, so businesses should plan accordingly.
Businesses can select which timings they would like to hold their pop-up activation as long as it falls within business hours.
Expected benefits
We expect Local Business Week to deliver a wide range of benefits for Local Businesses
- Direct exposure to thousands of daily commuters and travellers.
- An opportunity to build brand awareness and attract new customers.
- Free marketing support via Merseyrail’s network.
- A station day rate outside of Local Business Week could cost up to £500 for a pop-up activation.
Key Dates
- Application process will open on Tuesday 1st July and will end on Friday 24th July.
- Applications will be reviewed and all businesses communicated with W/C 4th August.
