Titanic Hotel Liverpool Achieves Major Sustainability Milestones

The Titanic Hotel Liverpool is marking Sustainable September by highlighting its comprehensive and impactful environmental initiatives, from achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status to a unique, hands-on approach to maintaining the historic Stanley Dock.

Having partnered with B&M Waste Services, the hotel has successfully achieved a zero-waste-to-landfill status by implementing a waste management program that diverts all waste toward recycling or renewable energy production. Over the past 12 months, the hotel has diverted 100% of its total waste from landfills, with 67% being recycled and the rest converted to energy. All food waste is also collected and sent for Anaerobic Digestion to produce electricity and compost.

In July 2025, the hotel diverted a remarkable 35,613 kg of waste from landfills. Of this total, 45% was recycled, while the remaining waste was converted into energy. These efforts generated nearly 61,000 kWh of renewable energy—enough to power 947 TVs for an entire year.

The hotel has also invested in a new baler to separate cardboard, with the financial savings offsetting the cost of a new compactor. Additionally, all on-site waste collections are conducted using an electric vehicle, further reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint.

In a unique, hands-on initiative, the hotel’s manager, Scott Davies, personally cleans the historic Stanley Dock. Using a specially made boat hired from a local marine engineering company, Liverpool Water Witch, he removes debris from the water as a part of the hotel’s wider commitment to the local environment.

Scott comments,

“Our commitment to a sustainable future is at the very core of our work at the Titanic Hotel Liverpool. Achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status and taking a hands-on approach to cleaning the Stanley Dock are just two examples of how we’re working to make a real difference. We’re proud to be pioneering sustainable hospitality and demonstrating that striving for a greener future is not only possible, but essential.”

Titanic Hotel continues to build strategic partnerships and make significant investments to continue reducing its environmental impact. For example, the hotel partnered with Peel Holdings’ District Heating network, Mersey Heat in April 2025. This partnership provides a greener, more economical alternative to the hotel’s previous gas boiler, supplying instant hot water and energy for heating, cooling, and the pool at Maya Blue Wellness.

The Titanic Hotel’s ongoing efforts represent a significant commitment to environmental responsibility that goes beyond a single initiative. By investing in renewable energy, pioneering zero-waste solutions, and actively caring for its unique local environment, the hotel is proud to be setting a benchmark for sustainable hospitality.
