UK dentists are experiencing a boom in business, with a rise in the number of people wanting to recreate the perfect celebrity smile.
A new poll from Barclays Business Banking found that just under a third of Liverpudlians are unhappy with their smile (32 per cent), and 82 per cent of dentists in the UK believe celebrity culture has increased demand in consumers looking for a ‘Hollywood smile.’

The bank’s research found Margot Robbie has the nation’s most sought-after smile, with Love Island’s Jack Fincham in second place. Hustle star Anne Hathaway came third in the votes, with Meghan Markle in fourth, ahead of Kate Middleton, Beyoncé, and Barack Obama.

Nearly two thirds (59 per cent) of people are willing to spend money in order to achieve the ‘perfect smile,’ – with those in Liverpool willing to spend an average of £1,130. In Brighton, those willing to spend money said they would spend the most - £2,157 on average, with Londoners close behind willing to spend £1,738.

Findings show that people in Scotland are the happiest with their smile (47 per cent), with over a quarter of those in the North West (27 per cent) and London unhappy with their teeth (34 per cent).
The value of loans to dentists from the bank has doubled in the last two years as they race to expand premises and invest in new tech to keep up with consumer demand.*

Dr Mary-Jane Sigrid Rowland Warmann, Founder and Lead Dentist at Smileworks in Liverpool, said: “I’ve seen a huge increase in patients wanting cosmetic dentistry, with many clients bringing in photos of celebrities to show me their dream smile. We’re also offering more and more cosmetic procedures, with expertise in facial aesethetics and lip fillers.

“Barclays has supported us to purchase a new surgery, opening this month, so we can keep up with demand. It’s a really exciting time for our business and it’s great to have the support and advice of our local relationship manager.”

Julie Campbell, Area Business Manager at Barclays Business Banking, said: “As the nation braces itself for another summer of reality TV, dentists are full filling dreams for those on the hunt for the perfect smile. Dentists in Liverpool definitely smiling widest as Barclays support them with growing and diversifying their businesses in a race to meet customer demand.”
